A weathered lime-plaster wall cracking to reveal the earthen substrate beneath

Second Skin

Hand-troweled lime and clay finishes for old walls.

We rebuild lime-plastered walls by hand — mortar mixed on site, textures matched to the original, surfaces left to breathe.

The studio

Calx is a small crew working on old masonry across the valley. We build our coats from slaked lime, local sand, and earth pigment — no cement, no plastic paint. Each wall is floated, troweled, and burnished by hand, then left to carbonate and harden over the seasons.
